Elmer was born on November 30, 1909 to Henry and Mathea Hendrickson. He was reared on the Hendrickson
farm 16 miles northwest of Camrose for the first 18 years of his life. From 1924 to 1927, he attended Camrose
Lutheran College, then left for Augsburg College in Minnesota, returning for visits at frequent intervals.

Elmer travelled widely. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Augsburg College and his Masters
degree from the University of Southern California and spent many years in the teaching profession. During the
1970's he became blind and had to retire from teaching. Elmer and Marie have two daughters Ruthanne and Linda.
