Marit Lyseng Tiev

Marit Andreasdatter Lyseng Tiev was born on 24 June 1848 at Norway.
She was the daughter of Andreas Olsen Tiev and Gjertrude Engebretsdatter Lyseng.

Marit Lyseng Tiev married Knut Nilson (Fodnes) Lyseng at Norway; they emigrated in
May 1893 to Roberts County, South Dakota. Marit Lyseng Tiev died on 22 May 1928
at Roberts County, South Dakota, USA, at age 79.

The Fodnes family from Svennes Congregation was an important one with large land
holdings. Some of their ancestors are named in government records from 1335, 1339,
and 1358.

Marit and Knut emigrated in May 1893 to Roberts County in South Dakota, where Knut
filed on a free homestead. He died before final posession was obtained, therefore his
widow, Marit, was granted Land Certificate Number 10326, dated April 8, 1902.

It was signed by President Theodore Roosevelt. All of their five children were born in
Norway. They had five children: Nils K., Andrew, Gjertrude Lyseng Peterson, Engebret
K. Lyseng, Kari Lyseng Chell.
