Albert K. Lyseng

Albert Lyseng

Ragnild Lyseng

Albert was the eldest son of Knut E. & Marit E. Lyseng. He was born in 1853. He came to the US in 1868 with his parents and settled near Clnton, Minnesota. In 1901, Knut E. Lyseng along with three of his sons - Albert, Erick, & Knut, came by train to Wetaskiwin, NWT, and were shown land in the Armena area. Shortly before they moved in 1902, Ragnild died in childbirth and was buried in the cemetery beside Lyseng Lake.

They had eleven children - but only seven grew to maturity. These were Mary (1882), Anna (1884), Carl E. (1886), Edwin (1889), Emil E. (1892), Alfred E. (1894), and Ludwig (1897). The land they had chosen in 1901 had a rich hay meadow, beside a body of water which is now known as the Lyseng Reservoir. But when they moved up in 1902 from Minnesota, they found that their hay meadow was also under water and the lake was loaded with fish. They said the fish were so numerous - you could scoop them into a pail with a pitch fork.

Albert was a man with true pioneering spirit - mastering trades such as sawing lumber, carpentry, blacksmithing, rope making - he was a mechanic, a veterinarian and butcher.

Albert spent the last couple of years of his life on his home quarter, with his son Emil, who had taken over the farm. He then moved in with his son Carl, where he died in 1931.
