MRS. MATHEA HENDRICKSON 

Honor Memory of Bittern Lake Pioneer

Mrs. Mathea Hendrickson, of Bittern Lake, Alta, passed away on Monday morning, Nov. 12, at the age of 81 years, 29 days. 

Mathea Lyseng was born October 14, 1870 at Benson, Minn. As a young girl she moved with her family to Bigstone County, Minnesota where she spent her youth and was confirmed. She was united in marriage to Henry Hendrickson on Dec. 1, 1888, and moved to their homestead at Day County, South Dakota, where they resided till the spring of 1902, when they immigrated to the Armena district, where she resided till her death. 

She was predeceased by her husband in June 1937. She was also predeceased by two daugh- ters, Jorgine and Marie, and by one son, Raymond. She leaves to mourn her loss: six sons, Oscar, Martin, George and Lawrence, of Bittern Lake, and Carl and Elmer, of Los Angeles, California; four daughters, Olianna (Mrs. E. Hong) of Summerland, B.C. Emma (Mrs. E. Ewald) of Edmonton), Inga (Mrs. N. Teig) of San Diego, California and Thea (Mrs R. Young) of Bittern Lake; fourteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 

Mrs. Hendrickson was active all her life and enjoyed good health: until her final illness. She had the pleasure of living to see all her children grow to adulthood. Blessed be her memory. 

Funeral services were held in the Scandia Lutheran Church on Thursday. Nov. 15th, at 2:00 p.m.. with the Rev. Rostad officiating, assisted by Rev. R. Olson and Rev. S. Rude. Rev. Rostad spoke on Phil. 1:21-28, A meeting with Christ transforms a life ; and Rev. Rude spoke on John 4:1-3. God promises to Christians hope of eternal glory. Rev. Olson brought a personal message to the family, and together with Mrs. Olson, rendered a duet. “Face to Face.” The service was completed with the hymn, I Know of a Sleep in Jesus Name. 

Ushers were Martin and George Lyseng, nephews of the deceased. Pallbearers were also nephews, Emil Lyseng, George Hendrickson, Eddie Lyseng, Abel Lyseng, Carl Lyseng and Anders Lyseng. Interment took place in the Scandia Cemetery. Hoveland Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
